Founded in 2017, Roman is a telehealth clinic that provides access to FDA-approved prescription medications for men’s health conditions. They also offer OTC products, such as wipes and supplements.

Roman’s parent company, Ro, offers products and services for sexual health, skincare, fertility and weight management.

“Ro is the only company in the U.S. that offers telehealth, diagnostics, labs and pharmacy services nationwide,” says Michelle Suconick, communications director with Ro.

First, prospective patients complete a free online visit reviewed by one of Roman’s online health care practitioners, which include licensed doctors and nurse practitioners. Users are asked to submit information about their symptoms, medical history, current medications and other key health information, like their blood pressure levels. They also need to upload a government-issued ID and a recent photo for identity verification purposes. In some states, individuals may also be required to have a video meeting with their doctor.

Within 24 hours, a health care provider will review a person’s information and determine if a prescription is warranted. If they decide to prescribe a medication, it can be filled directly through Ro’s pharmacy network and shipped via second day air, or members can fill their prescription at their own pharmacy.

After their initial consultation, individuals have the ability to contact their care providers via messaging, phone call or video chat any time. Users can discuss updating their care or ask other questions about their treatment.

In addition, Roman provides individuals with the option to purchase OTC products, such as 4% benzocaine wipes for premature ejacul*tion, without a prescription.

According to a representative from Roman, all orders come with free shipping, though some shipments can be expedited for $15. Roman accepts most major credit cards, along with PayPal, Google Pay and Apple Pay. However, they do not currently accept insurance.

“The reason Ro and other companies exist is because the current state of the medical system does a poor job providing access to all patients,” says Judson Brandeis, M.D., a San Francisco-based board-certified urologist specializing in men’s sexual, hormonal and physical health.

Online services like Roman may help “fill in the gaps” for those who may not have easy access to certain treatments otherwise. “When patients come to Ro, we help them achieve their goals through an end-to-end health care experience spanning from diagnosis, to delivery of medication, to ongoing care,” says Suconick.

However, Dr. Brandeis cautions that services like Roman may not properly address the root causes of conditions like ED.

“ED is often caused by poor lifestyle choices,” says Dr. Brandeis. ED can also be a warning sign for more serious conditions, like cardiovascular disease, diabetes or hardened or blocked arteries. Health care providers from Roman can order laboratory tests to try and understand a patient’s underlying cause for ED. However, Ro stresses that its services aren’t a replacement for a primary care provider.

While Roman may be a convenient way to obtain and fill prescription medications, Dr. Brandeis cautions that it shouldn’t be a substitute for a relationship with a trusted, regular health care provider. Additionally, Dr. Brandeis also considers some of Roman’s prescription medications, such as Viagra, to be overpriced.

Video reviews published on Roman’s website are all positive with members citing knowledgeable staff, convenient access to medication and good customer service. However, the featured members were compensated for sharing their experiences, and reviews from third-party platforms are mixed.

The company has a “B” rating on the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and an average customer rating of 1.75/5. Roman responds to all complaints with 22 cases closed in the last 12 months.

On TrustPilot, Ro has an average rating of 3.3 stars. This rating includes reviews for all of Ro’s services, not just Roman. Ro has claimed their TrustPilot profile and responds to 22% of negative reviews, on average.

Positive reviews from TrustPilot mention the following factors.
