#careertip: Always ask about a company's tech stack. When was the last time you wrote, printed, and distributed a memo using snail mail? For the young'uns out there, a memo was a concise, formally-written document typed on letter-sized paper and distributed internally via hand-delivery or interoffice mail. These artifacts were the main internal communication channel in the 80s and most of the 90s.Fast forward to today: technology has revolutionized corporate communications, offering new opportunities for engagement, data-driven decision making, and efficient content creation. There are thousands of digital platforms offering services to support the work of #commspros and, as we navigate different #commsjobs, companies, and industries, we inevitably get attached to some of these platforms because they make our job easier and more productive. And then, there are some you come to hate. With a passion. One thing I normally ask about when I change jobs is 'What technology platforms do you use for your day-to-day work?'Asking this question provides direct insight into the company's daily operations, revealing both their approach to efficiency and their workplace culture.Knowing the tools they use helps you assess your readiness to jump in: are you already skilled with these technologies, or will you need to learn from scratch? It's also a hint at the company's attitude towards #innovation and #collaboration, especially important in our increasingly digital world.Understanding these platforms is critical, as it directly impacts how you'll engage with teams, manage information flow, and execute your role effectively. This knowledge isn't just about preparation; it's about envisioning your future in that environment and how you can contribute to and grow within it.What digital productivity tools do you love? Please don't say PowerPoint.----------------------------------------------------------------------P.S: Shout out to friends and colleagues working to provide the best #techtools for #commspros: Michael Lantzy, Allison Hendricks, Chuck Gose, Sonia Fiorenza, Linda Zebian, Zaheed Bardai, MA-CPC, MBA, PRS, Amelia Dahmer, Andrew Flynn, James Tyer, Ann Cronin, Jack Rowbotham, and so many more.
