What is the motto of the Going Postal post office? ›

“Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds”— is not the official Postal Service motto though it appears chiseled in gray granite over the entrance of the James A. Farley building at Eighth Avenue and 33d Street in Manhattan.

The phrase is American English slang although it is now being used increasingly on this side of the Atlantic. Terry Pratchett used it as the title for a novel in 2004. Meaning to become uncontrollably angry, it originates in a series of events in the USA in the 1980s and 1990s.

Verdict: Don't worry about it being the bajillionth book in a series; Going Postal works just fine as a stand-alone novel. If you're in the mood for something light and fun with a stand-up-and-cheer ending, this book delivers more bang for the buck than it has any right to.
