Mila Scheidlinger - 100 YEARS OLD TODAY - a lesson in a life of facing adversityToday Mila (Bubbi to me and her other grandkids (3) and great grandkids (4)) turns 100 years old!Whilst as a family we debated whether or not to get a letter from the King of England I felt it much more important to share her life story and discuss adversity and how to face itYou see my grandmother has been through a lot She arrived in Australia at the age of 17, sole survivor in her family of the holocaust If you visit her, you can still see the tattoo on her arm, her serial numberAt Auschwitz she met Shindler from the famous movie Shindler's list, some of you would have watched. When the war ended and she had survived she and her then to be husband helped Shindler and he stayed with themIn Australia she married my grandfather, had 2 boys and started multiple businesses from nothing - a fruit shop, a cafe, invested in real estate and moreAll seemed great until I was 13, she 62 and her son Allan, my uncle died at the young age of 332 years later her husband died2 years later again my parents divorcedA tough time was had for all, but life moves on for those left behindSo Mila met and married a nice guy Jack, several years later he died of cancer Picking the pieces up she met another nice man Jacque. Unfortunately he had a stroke and moved to a homeToday she is as you see belowSometimes happy and smiling, sometimes confused and distressedOne thing is consistent - she loves her family, whether she remembers their names or not, she feels them and their presence around her She describes my visits to her as "holidays"What can we learn from her life:- Do your best to be happy- Face adversity as best you can- Life is short- Love your family- Hate is for the weak- Treat everyone as equals unless they show they're not- Be grateful - Have fun- Live life with a positive outlookI wish she could be with us for another 100 years Happy Birthday Bubbi, cant wait to see you tomorrow!Henry William 5th Wave Recruiting John

Aloha & Mahalo!Having just returned from our first family trip since Covid lockdowns, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the kind people of Hawaii and what we learned in paradiseFirst, let's start with Aloha. Aloha is one of those words with several meanings - Hello, Goodbye, and Welcome. The English language doesn't really have an equivalent to be frank. Hawaiian people say Aloha many times a day, and it's a nice thing - I like itSpeaking to one Uber driver, I found that up to 75% of the population of Hawaii considers themselves some form of Asian. There are Japanese families going back many generations, Filipinos, Chinese, and others who have come to better their lives, and of course, the native Hawaiian PolynesiansThink of Polynesia as 1,000+ islands of people from places like Fiji, New Zealand, Tonga, etc. Over many years, they've been jumping on outrigger boats, and their cultures have mixed and blended - each remaining both unique and similar at the same timeLiving in paradise seems fun - the weather is fantastic, averaging 28 degrees Celsius daily, fresh fish is abundant from the warm seas, and the beaches are just amazingBUT - paradise isn't perfect - there are many homeless, and the cost of living is super high. Many of the service workers we met worked multiple jobs - as many as 3, just to keep food on the tableHowever, the atmosphere is chill, and work and life take place with a "hang loose" attitude and a relaxed paceAs sad as we were to leave paradise, I'm grateful that we live in our version of it ourselves. LinkedIn tips No1This is going to be controversial....If this is your photo below, I can't help youDo you want to know why?YourLinkedInphoto and profile is part of YOUR brandIf you don't want to show what you look like, I question why....- Are you not professional?- Are you in an age category and don't want to be judged?- Are you shy?What is it that makes you want to be anonymous?Recruiters search LinkedIn to find potential candidates for their customersSo if you have no photo, you're potentially limiting those that will reach out to youIn the Recruiter version of LinkedIn recruiters can filter their search to remove candidates without a photoHowever if you do want to be found here's some tips to help with your photos and branding:- Have a PROFESSIONAL photo that represents you- You can be in a T Shirt and still look professional- It should preferably be a head shot- It should be LinkedIn worthy, not an Instagram shot- Wear whatever makes sense given the role you want to attract - smart casual, a suit, a nice shirt (and some pants please) :)What not to do:- Don't take a selfie- No photos in the toilet/elevator mirror- It should not be selling your physical 'assets', rather a good professional head shot- Don't take photos with others - partners, kids, pets - it's about you- No restaurants, cars, buses, planes, trains, seatbelts- No scenery - the photo should be a clear head shot of you - No stages with microphones - we cant see you from too far away- No photos of photos (your work ID pass)- Don't take a photo of you on your phone - why?- No university graduation clothes I'd suggest make the use of a professional photographer or even a kind friend that has a knack for photographyA lot can be read into the way you represent yourself5th Wave Recruitingis here to help and assist in any way possible for those that put in the work#sales#followthe5thwave#the5thwaveiscoming

I stand with humanity You see the crisis in the Middle East should not be about jumping on the bandwagon of Us vs ThemIt’s a humanitarian crisis It would be easy, having been brought up Jewish, descendants of holocaust survivors to start waving the flag, but I won’t, not because I can’t, because it’s just not right This is my grandmother who turns 100 in February She survived the Auschwitz concentration camp whilst many didn’tShe’s been lucky enough to see her great grandchildren grow - a mixed familyMy wife is Chinese Indonesian raised Catholic, my kids - children of the world - religion agnostic, faith neutral, descendants of the persecuted from different parts of the world My brother in law Muslim, my kids cousins a variety of everything If we see things as black and white, us versus them, we’re all doomed for more of the same- war, atrocities, horror That’s not a world I want my kids to seeSo when you rant and rave, chant and wave your flags, no matter which faith or nationality you represent, I feel for you - as you are just humanIs this the forum for such words, I hope soCan we do better as humans, God yesRemember my Bubbi next time you choose a side because despite the pain and cruelty she’s endured she’s just a human - and she would treat you as such!I challenge you to do the same5th Wave Recruiting
